A Message from our Founder
"As I look back at this picture over and over again. The tears began to flow like a river down my face. When I looked into her eyes I saw my mother. My GOD this has hit home... Even though my mom didn't have cancer but seeing her on the bed of affliction brought back memories... Many are called but few are chosen!!! Thank you for choosing me"
As I sit here preparing my mind to shave my head completely bald for my upcoming Pre-Mother's Day Brunch, tears started to roll down my face. My GOD, I can't fathom the thought of losing my hair without a choice, losing weight without a choice or losing my independency without a choice. My heart truly hurts for a person who has to go through chemotherapy, surgery and radiation. I'M SCREAMING AT THE TOP OF MY LUNGS WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY GO THROUGH AND NOT TO MENTION THE PAIN IT CAUSES THE FAMILY WHO CAN'T DO ANYTHING BUT PRAY!!! OH GOD WE DON'T HAVE NO IDEA!!!! DAMN U CANCER!!! #SHAVE4THEBRAVE

Rena Day is the Founder and CEO of Salute the Ribbon Incorporated. She has worked over a decade as an advocate for patients with chronic conditions such as cancer. Throughout Rena's journey of life, she has been placed in various positions to advocate for individuals and their families who have been challenged with access to health care which has strengthened the culture for Salute the Ribbon.
In March, of 2014, while working as a Financial Counselor Trainer with Florida Cancer Specialist she was approached by a patient in distress stating, " I can't afford to pay for my cancer treatments because I'm on a fixed income and five dollars is too much for me to pay." Rena was able to calm the patient down and immediately discussed other options. After searching for several hours unsuccessfully that's when Rena realized nowhere nationally was there a patient assistance program to cover the diagnosis of small cell lung cancer. The only option for this patient was a payment plan that she ultimately could not afford.
This issue begins to resonate with Rena knowing that she couldn't offer some form of relief. Reflecting back to March of 2014, on this very day, Rena made it a priority for something so near and dear to her heart. She is dedicated to sleepiness nights, long work days and time away from her family for patients that are in need of access to care. Shortly thereafter, Salute the Ribbon was born.
Rena was born in South Florida. She spent her childhood days growing up in Over-town and Liberty City, and she attended Miami Northwestern Senior High School; over the years of her adulthood life she has worked and resided in Miami Gardens, Miramar, and Pembroke Pines. Rena currently lives in Ocala, Florida. Rena has over a decade of experience in both Hematology and Oncology. She has obtained both the practical experience and the education to lead this organization to great heights and beyond. Using her tenacious business savvy along with an insatiable thirst for helping others, Rena has successfully built a solid foundation for the Salute the Ribbon organization. She possesses a strong passion for helping others, as well as an unequivocal respect and admiration for cancer survivors around the world. She is sincerely touched by the men, women, and children who fight this disease every day without the financial aid to get the proper treatment they need, and she aims to change that in a big way.
Rena enjoys spending time with her family, helping others, going to church and writing positive quotes on social media.
